Kempton Jones – Made in Canada Series

One thing we know about Michelle is that she is one majorly creative lady. Over the past year she's come to us with a wide range of variety: owlies, children tees, racoons, and now tea towels! No matter what the product is, she always comes up with a clever way to present and contextualize her merchandise. Her owlies are named after small towns and cities, while her racoons bear the names of city streets. Her son is her ultimate inspiration: she includes his drawings and the funny things he says on her children tees & aprons. And her tea towels... well, you can read all about them and learn a bit about her below!

Striving to live a creative life – that’s what I do. I have always been interested in making and dabbled with pottery, knitting and sewing but didn’t allow myself to fully explore this until just a few years ago. I took some screen printing classes and was immediately hooked!

Life’s Soundtrack grew out of a bigger project I’m working on. It’s a print project that involves all of the five senses. I took the hearing component and captured some intriguing sounds for the tea towels.

My creative life starts around 9pm. This is when dinner is done, things are cleaned up, my five year old son is asleep and I have a few hours to make! I’ve monopolized the dining room for far too long now so we’re hoping to put up a wall in the bedroom and carve out a small work space. I think it will be about 40 square feet, but 40 glorious square feet it will be! I live in the Danforth and work as a studio manager at a graphic design company.
Some of my favourite things.
Owlies of Ontario have been a passion project. These plush art owls are named after small towns in Ontario; names like Varna, Oxley or Duntroon. I have a huge stash of fabric and these cute little owlies are a perfect match! Meet Zorra, Duntroon, Carling, Varna and Monsell:

I want to say how happy I am to be a part of the Freedom family. The collective is an amazing group of talented makers. Big thanks to Jelena, Karen, and Marsya for supporting and promoting local and handmade!
